Abstract
Canada is a nation founded upon ethnic diversity. Beginning with the indigenous natives, and expanding with the arrival of the British, French and fellow European settlers, continuing up to the modern day with: Asian, Chinese and Indian immigrants. Many Canadians would consider today, that ethnic diversity is Canada’s national and international image, that it is something of which its people are proud and eager to promote, rather than hide or dispel. But with an ever expanding population, increasing immigration rate, and racist and anti-Semitic feelings spreading into Canada, from America and other western nations; is Canada doomed to fail? The government, both nationally and locally, continually attempts to promote an image of acceptance and ethnic unity, but could this lead to Canadians rejecting diversity and repeating events such as the Quebec demand for independence of the 1970’s? One could argue that it is the people who make Canada what it is today, rather than the Government and its various multicultural policies.
