Introduction
Canada is still a developing economic power, with a rich history of ethnic diversity and has been considered, by many, a multicultural ‘role model’. Many would argue that ethnic diversity is a fundamental reason for national pride and unity throughout Canada. Some believe that the government makes unnecessary attempts to promote diversity, which over time creates a backlash altering how the people really view it. Many Canadians feel that a number of the government's policies are self defeating, in that they encourage racism; rather than dispel it. The reality of ethnic diversity being successful or otherwise boils down to one simple fact; whether national unity exists or not. Many would argue that unity and diversity do exist and are very prevalent throughout the nation. However, there are also many others that believe this is only a facade, with the truth existing just under the surface.
